Sierras, Rockies
young bucks compared to
old granny Catskills.
Door blocked by drifts, wind
knocks me back. Cold smack of snow
shouts Stay inside, fool.
Desaturated
world caressed by soft, wan light
all sharp edges dulled
This is why she can’t
move back East, the cubicle
life too dim, dull, stale.
We both had bad dreams
but she’s okay, Portland-bound,
scratching poison oak.
Like skin, snow sags droops
puckers. Tears slide across a
hard crusty surface.
So light, delicate.
But under its weight trees crack.
Roofs collapse. Hearts fail.
Snowfall as music —
light flakes grace notes, blizzard chords
pounded in fury.
